SUMMARY/ABSTRACT
At the Eurosatory world arms sales fair on Monday 13 June 2022, President Macron declared that he wanted to “commit France to a war economy that must be established over the long term”. On the same day, a prefectural decree prohibited any gathering in the area of the arms sales fair with the clear objective of forbidding the Peace Movement and the association “stop fuelling war” from displaying a banner condemning the arms trade.
These decisions are serious, President Macron not only violates the right to demonstrate but he multiplies the policies that engage France in a logic of permanent war.
The Peace Movement has unequivocally condemned Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and asked that France acts for a negotiated solution. In a letter dated February 28 addressed to the President of the Republic, it made a series of proposals to stop the war in Ukraine, while asking the President of the Republic not to settle for war.
France must take initiatives at the European and global level for an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine and for a negotiated solution avoiding thousands of deaths. The response to the social and ecological challenges facing humanity requires an economy of peace with economic, social, cultural and environmental policies at the national and international levels that are useful and necessary to build human and ecological security with the objective of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), that is, building a world of justice, solidarity and peace. The Peace Movement calls for more actions in the next 3 weeks, for the above-mentioned objectives but more particularly for a ceasefire in Ukraine, for the end of illicit arms sales, for the signature by France and all the countries of the world of the Treaty on the prohibition of nuclear weapons (TPNW) by France, which came into force on January 22, 2021, to develop debates, public actions with the authorities but also with the candidates to the legislative elections. For its future, humanity has no other way than Peace.

At the Eurosatory world arms sales fair on Monday 13 June 2022, President Macron declared that he wanted to “commit France to a war economy that must be established over the long term”. On the same day a prefectural decree prohibited any gathering in the area of the arms sales fair with the clear objective of forbidding the Peace Movement and the association “stop fuelling war” from displaying a banner condemning the arms trade. The prohibition was immediately put into effect by the police, even though the two organizations had not been informed of the prohibition and had legally informed the prefectural authorities of this action.
These decisions are serious.
President Macron not only violates the right to protest, but above all he is multiplying the political decisions that commit France to a logic of permanent war, which is expressed more particularly by :
– The implementation of a military programming law committing France to the doubling of credits devoted to nuclear weapons, increasing this budget from 3.7 to 7 billion euros per year, that is, over 15 years, 100 billion euros for new atomic weapons while the Treaty on the prohibition of nuclear weapons entered into force on January 22, 2021.
– By decree of April 17, 2022, he has just abolished the diplomatic corps, which was an indispensable tool to perpetuate a corps of competent diplomats capable of acting for peace in the four corners of the world. (link)
– Yesterday he validated by his presence a deadly trade in which France occupies the third or fourth place depending on the year in the world and contributes to sowing death in Yemen, Egypt and elsewhere in violation of European law which prohibits arms sales to states at war, or likely to use these weapons against their population.
– Today he is taking a new and extremely dangerous step, by affirming that it is necessary to engage France in a war economy made to last.

The Peace Movement firmly condemned Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and demanded that France acts for an immediate ceasefire and a negotiated diplomatic solution. In a letter dated February 28 addressed to the President of the Republic, it made a series of proposals to stop the war in Ukraine while asking the President of the Republic not to settle for war.
On the contrary, France must take initiatives at the European and global level for an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine and for a negotiated solution avoiding thousands of deaths.
More than ever, the mobilization of public opinion for the defense of peace and the promotion of a culture of peace is necessary, which is why the Peace Movement calls on its committees, its activists, the population to mobilize
– For an immediate cease-fire in Ukraine and a negotiated diplomatic solution
– For France to sign the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW), which entered into force on January 21, 2021, while the 83 signatory states of this treaty are meeting in Vienna to move forward in its implementation.
– By signing the petition demanding the end of the secret on arms sales in France.
– By demanding that the President of the Republic reconsider his decision to abolish the diplomatic corps
– Calls for unitary delegations to the authorities to make these demands known in the next 2 weeks
– Calls on all its friends to join the Peace Movement either by sending a letter or an e-mail asking to be a member of the Peace Movement to national@mvtpaix.org or by joining online at (minimum membership fee for 2022 is 5 euros)
– Calls for the creation of peace committees in all municipalities, universities, high schools, hospitals and companies to help bring people together and take action to build a peaceful world in France.
For its future, humanity has no other way than Peace
