USA BOMBING OF IRANIAN ATOMIC FACILITIES CONDEMNED

Le Mouvement de la Paix condemns in the strongest possible terms the new violation of international law committed by the USA on the basis of President Trump’s unilateral decision (without going through the US Congress) to bomb Iran’s atomic facilities.

Over and above the possible environmental risks in terms of radioactivity, these bombings once again highlight the collusion between the USA and Israel to torpedo the diplomatic actions that were underway with the participation of the USA.

These two states are violating international law in virtually every area. It is worth pointing out once again that it was the USA, during Trump’s first term in office, that withdrew from the international agreement on Iran’s nuclear programme. Furthermore, Israel, a state that acquired nuclear weapons with the help of France, which was kept secret for a long time, is still not a signatory to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT). The USA, like France and the other nuclear-armed countries, is in breach of the NPT and is continuing to modernise its nuclear weapons in contravention of Article 6 of the NPT. For the moment, Iran does not have nuclear weapons. In fact, the USA and Israel are systematically torpedoing any attempt to find diplomatic solutions to the region’s problems.

Le Mouvement de la Paix wishes to make it clear that it did not wait until today to denounce the crimes of 7 October committed by Hamas or the crimes of the ayatollahs in power in Iran, nor to lend its support to all the forces working for peace and progress in the Middle East – whether in Israel, Palestine or Iran.

It is not just the Middle East that is on the brink of conflagration, but also Europe and the world.

We need to respond by mobilising the forces of peace internationally to stop the perpetrators of war, war crimes, crimes against humanity and ethnic cleansing. The aim is to prevent the outbreak of violence, or even a 3rd World War.

Who has an interest in chaos? Not the people! But surely the military-industrial lobbies and the multinational forces that support the USA in its project to remodel a New Middle East that the USA calls ‘the Greater Middle East’.

What is at stake is a reconstruction of the global balance of power to the benefit of the supporters of a world dominated by ultraliberal logic and force. This development marks the desire to revert to the law of the strongest in defiance of international law and social rights – under the impetus of the USA and playing into the hands of extreme right-wing forces.

This weekend, Le Mouvement de la Paix took part in the NATO Counter-Summit in The Hague, in the presence of Alain Rouy, National Secretary of the Mouvement de la Paix, and on Monday and Tuesday, Roland Nivet, National Spokesperson of the Mouvement de la Paix, will take part in the International Forum for Peace 2025 organised in Brussels by the Belgian Peace Forces.

Everywhere, we will defend the urgent need to organise the most united possible international response and mobilisation of the forces of peace to isolate and stop the perpetrators of war, war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Our ability to open the way to another world of social progress and cooperation between peoples depends on the strength of mobilisations for peace and for the total elimination of nuclear weapons.

A global reaction to the call from peace movements must be organised in the coming days, and in a more structured way around the 80 years of the atomic bombings, the 80th anniversary of the United Nations Charter and on 21 and 26 September 2025 (International Day of Peace and International Day for the Elimination of Nuclear Weapons).

The challenge is to unite all the forces of humanism, trade unions, associations, feminism, ecology, democracy and peace, to defend peace and social justice, and to obtain cease-fires, particularly in Gaza, Ukraine, Sudan, the DRC… And to get the creation of a Nuclear Weapons Free Zone (NWFZ) in the Middle East put back on the agenda of the United Nations General Assembly.

Paris, on Sunday the 22nd of June 2025
Le Mouvement de la Paix
