Mister President,
I worry about your government plans regarding security and defense, and about the recent talk of Mr Kouchner calling to “get ready for the worst”, for “war” against Iran. Moreover these talks came with a real crusade to pass sanctions against Iran “separated from United Nations sanctions”.
This behaviour breaks with the strategy opened until then with our European partners, which differed from the strategy of George Bush who is in favour of strong-arm tactics with Iran. This sudden alignment of the French diplomacy is all the more astonishing since the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has declared in a recent report that it reckons having taken “a significant step forward” concerning inspections and the transparency of Iranian nuclear programs. Carrying on regardless the UNO and calling into question the efforts of IAEA, destabilize negotiations under way and the international security system.
Nuclear proliferation threatens the survival of mankind. Only a global process of nuclear disarmament can answer these risks of proliferation. Mister President, France has to dedicate to this urgent endeavour. Threatening with war on the pretext of breach of the Non Proliferation Treaty, whereas France contravenes itself this Treaty by carrying on with new nuclear programs, is a crime against reason, justice and Peace.
In the same time, you appeal to a stronger integration of France and Europe in the NATO, you appeal to increase the weapons sales and you appeal to rise military expenditure of the European Union countries. These policies are going to emphasize the militarization of international relations, boost a new arms race and lead us toward the worst confrontations.
Mister President, France has nothing to win with this military positioning and these demonstrations of Atlanticist allegiances. On the contrary, for its security and its honour, I demand you to do everything possible to reinforce the UNO and the international security system, to revive disarmament process and to build an active Europe for world peace.
