Declaration of the Mouvement de la Paix Headoffice
Mouvement de la Paix, who campaigned for a referendum on the proposal of a European Constitutional Treaty, feels pleased with the French massive participation to the 29 May ballot.
This expresses the desire to make Europe a place of peace, social and civil justice.
Mouvement de la Paix, together with its associates and local committees, played its role in the debate that marked the campaign at all social levels.
Our criticisms of the project have been largely shared, particularly the subordination to NATO, military budgets, forces and research development, as well as the silence on the nuclear arsenals stocked in Europe while the European Parliament was about to vote an important declaration on nuclear non-proliferation.
According to our concept of Peace and Culture of Peace, the respect of the international law, the UN's primal role, the definition of the main social and cultural rights must have a central place in a pacific, democratic and social Europe.
Mouvement de la Paix will participate with its partners in :
-
civic initiatives following the European debate's dynamics
-
approach to institutions, elected representatives, political and social forces both on local, national and European level.
Mouvement de la Paix calls for pursuing and developing the debate and action for a Europe key actor for peace and disarmament according to the UN Charter, whose 60 th anniversary will be celebrated in the next few days.
