From 11 to 19 February 2005 a Mouvement de la Paix delegation went to Israel and Palestine. It was led by vice-president Roland Nivet and Roland Claverie, coordinator of the Middle East Peace working group, and composed by Annie Saillard from Saint Nazaire, Roland Claverie and Pierre Flament from Seine Saint Denis, Clotilde Baudoult and Ahmia Aissa from Paris.
They met a number of local NGOs and other associations acting in both countries in order to revive the contacts established in Mars 2002 and discuss what they expect from us.
We've noticed how much in this context of little provisional cease-fire hope is being weakened by the policy of annexation carried out by Sharon. This, beyond the fact that the unilateral decision of the Gaza withdrawal plan with the extention to the settlements to Cisjordany is seriously putting the process of peace at risk, with the perspective of two viable and sovereign countries. The catastrophic situation imposed to the Palestinians by prohibiting them to get around to go to work, school or even hospital is seriously compromising the credibility of the Geneva plan, therefore considered as a means for future negotiations.
This situation urges the international community to intervene and put pressure upon Israel. Mouvement de la Paix, together with its partners, commits itself and participates in the national campaign for the separation wall dismantlement, for the settlements withdrawal and the enforcement of the International Criminal Court Resolution. |
